History
American marines where spotted playing baseball in the parks of Copenhagen as early as 1911, and a Danish book about baseball and softball was written in the 50ies. Organized baseball and softball was not played in Denmark until the late 70ies. The Danish Baseball Softball Federation (DBSF) was established in 1978, bringing North American, Japanese, and of course Danish players together.
In the early year’s softball had a steady growth in Denmark, while baseball, for different reasons, did not really catch on. In 1987 DBSF entered the Sports Confederation of Denmark, thus being recognized as an official sport in the country.
In 2008 the two sports split up and Danish Softball Federation was established.
Since the early 80’ies, Danish softball was been a mainstay at the European tournaments in both men’s and women’s fastpitch. The women have reached a 4th place finish in Europe in 1997 thus qualifying for the only World Championship in 1997 in Fujinomija. Best male result for the has been a European Championship in 2010 and a 9th place finish at the World Championships in Prague in 2019.
