Germany kicked off the sixth day of the Women's Softball European Championship 2024 with a commanding 8-2 win over Ukraine, and Israel claimed a strong 10-3 victory over Austria.
In the first Super Round game of the day between Czechia and Greece, the Czechs secured a narrow 1-0 victory. KAVANOVÁ doubled in the third inning and was brought home by FURKOVÁ, scoring the only run of the game. Greece managed 4 hits but couldn’t capitalize, while Czechia played error-free defense to hold onto the win.
Great Britain edged out Spain with a 2-1 walk-off victory in a tightly contested game. The British team took the lead in the third inning when KERR Jahni doubled to center field, allowing WARSOP to score. Spain responded in the top of the fourth with SOJO scoring after being hit by a pitch and driven in by an ÁLVAREZ single up the middle, tying the game. The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the seventh, when SNOW tripled and scored on a walk-off single from CHAN to center field, securing the 2-1 victory for Great Britain.
Later in the day, Germany secured their second win with a close 4-3 victory over Belgium. Malta closed out the afternoon with a solid 6-1 victory over Hungary.
Italy continued their dominant run in the Women's Softball European Championship 2024, claiming a 7-2 victory over Czechia. Italy took an early lead, scoring 3 runs in the first inning. After a few quiet innings, Italy added 2 more runs in the fifth inning. Czechia responded with 2 runs in the fifth. Italy added an insurance run in the sixth inning.
The evening saw France overwhelm Ukraine with an 11-1 win. Croatia emerged victorious over Denmark with a 7-3 win.
Spain dominated their game against Greece, securing a 10-0 victory. Spain opened the game strong with seven runs in the first inning, adding another run in the second. They capped off their win by scoring two more runs in the fourth inning. Greece was unable to respond, managing only two hits throughout the game against pitcher Beatriz ALONSO.
Thanks to their win, Spain secured fifth place, matching their finish in the last edition of 2022, while Greece finished in sixth, improving on their 7th position from 2022.
The games between Great Britain and the Netherlands, Poland and Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland, and Hungary and Bulgaria were either suspended or postponed due to weather conditions and will be played tomorrow. All the details are available in this article.
The results confirmed the path of Czechia to the Bronze Medal Game. The winner of the game between Great Britain and the Netherlands will advance to the Gold Medal Game against Italy, while the losing team will face Czechia for the Bronze Medal.
Thanks to the game results, some more spots in the final standings are official. France secured 7th place, followed by Germany in 8th. Israel finished in 9th, while Ukraine took 10th place. Austria came in 11th, and Belgium concluded the tournament in 12th.
The spots from the 13th to the 22nd will be decided by tomorrow morning's games.
