BECC: Successful evening for German clubs on Day 3

The German teams Guggenberger Legionaere Regensburg and VOITH Heidenheim Heidekoepfe both celebrated wins on day three of the Baseball European Champions Cup 2024. Regensburg won 6-0 against Eagles Praha, while Heidenheim prevailed 7-2 over Draci Brno. Brno, Heidenheim and Regensburg sit atop of the standings with 2-1 records, while Praha is 0-3.

Eagles Praha – Guggenberger Legionaere Regensburg 0-6 (Box score)

The Guggenberger Legionaere Regensburg picked up their second win at the Baseball European Champions Cup 2024 with a 6-0 shutout at the Eagles Praha on Wednesday evening.

In a game, which was close until the ninth inning, Regensburg took a 2-0 lead when Terrell Joyce went deep for a two-run home run. In the ninth frame the Guggenberger Legionaere padded the lead with four runs on runs by Marlon Jimenez Ramos, Daniel Patrice, Alexander Schmidt and Nino Sacasa, which scored on a wild pitch and a pair of passed balls, as well as a RBI single by Devon Ramirez Beaver.

On the mound Regensburg’s pitchers Kieran Lovegrove, Patrick Mitchell, Pablo Guillen and Nick Miceli combined for 15 strikeouts in nine scoreless two-hit innings. Guillen picked up the win. Emmanuel Herrera got charged with the loss.

VOITH Heidenheim Heidekoepfe – Draci Brno 7-2 (Box score)

The VOITH Heidenheim Heidekoepfe improved to 2-1 in three games at the Baseball European Champions Cup with a 7-2 victory over Draci Brno on Wednesday evening at Hellenstein Energie Ballpark in Heidenheim.

The VOITH Heidekoepfe opened the scoring quickly in the bottom of the first when Simon Guehring scored on a passed ball. The score stood until the seventh frame, when Heidenheim blew it wide open with six runs. Guehring started the rally with a RBI single. Then Will Germaine and Drew Janssen connected on a three-run and a two-run home run.

Draci got on the board in the top of the eighth with a two-run shot by Martin Cervinka, but they couldn’t field a comeback.

Janssen picked up also the win on the mound with seven scoreless innings of one-hit, six-walk ball. He struck out nine. Filip Capka matched him through six frames, but still took the bad-luck loss after the run in the first.

The Baseball European Champions Cup will make a month-long break and will continue on Wednesday, July 17 with the Guggenberger Legionaere Regensburg taking on Draci Brno at 19:00, while the Eagles Praha face the VOITH Heidenheim Heidekoepfe at 18:30.
