Germany, Italy and Netherlands improve to 3-0 in U-18 Baseball Euros

After three days at the U-18 Baseball European Championship in Regensburg, Germany the teams from Germany, Italy and Netherlands are still undefeated and improved to 3-0 on top of the standings. Germany cruised by Austria 16-1. Italy shut out Croatia 14-0. The Netherlands prevailed 9-1 over Great Britain in the meeting of 2-0 clubs. Czechia defeated winless Sweden by a score of 12-0 to improve to 2-1. In a back and forth affair France narrowly beat Belgium 9-6. In the evening defending title holder Spain held off Israel 9-3.

Italy – Croatia 14-0 (Box score)

Italy scored eight runs in the first in a 14-0 shutout over Croatia to kick off day three of the U-18 Baseball Euros. They scored all 14 runs in the first three frames and won after five. Pitchers Kilian Taucer and Andrea Mengoli combined for eight strikeouts in five one-hit innings. Daniele Di Persia went 3-for-3 with five RBI. Edoardo Cornelli scored three times. Boris Christensen had the lone hit for Croatia.

Netherlands – Great Britain 9-1 (Box score)

In a matchup between undefeated teams the Netherlands won 9-1 against Great Britain. A five-run rally in the third inning decided the outcome. Seven different players scored for the Dutch team in the game. Jamie Beerman and Jayden Van Atten crossed the plate twice. Colin Richard Lebel went 2-for-2 with a RBI for Team GB. Joris Meinsma allowed five hits, a run and a walk in 4 2/3 innings for the win. Aaron Caughlin took the loss.

Czechia – Sweden 12-0 (Box score)

Czechia improved to 2-1 with a 12-0 shutout over Sweden. They scored in each of the first four innings for the quick victory. Ondrej Navratil allowed just two hits in five scoreless innings for a complete game win. Denis Smirak had two hits and three RBI. Max Prejda, Filip Kubicek and Lukas Derganz crossed the plate twice for runs. Karl Eidem and James Dellamico had the two hits for Sweden.

France – Belgium 9-6 (Box score)

In a game were a run was scored in 10 of the 13 half innings played, France prevailed 9-6 over Belgium with the lead switching sides five times in the contest. RBI singles by Tyrique Lambert and Esteban Briones decided the outcome eventually in the sixth. Lambert scored three times in the game. Briones had two RBI. Nando Mostaert had two RBI for Belgium. Ewout Vrijders scored two runs.

Germany – Austria 16-1 (Box score)

Germany continued its torrid start into the tournament by defeating Austria 16-1 for their third win in as many games on Wednesday. Germany scored four runs in the first, three each in the second and third and six in the fourth. All nine players by Germany scored at least a run. Darrion Richards and Julian Siegert-Bomhard scored three times. Luca Sieger had four RBI. Paul Kerle scored the lone run for Austria. Lasse Nixdorf picked up the win after allowing two hits, a run and six walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Spain – Israel 9-3 (Box score)

Spain got back into the win column with a 9-3 victory over Israel to close out day three at the U-18 Baseball European Championship. Spain scored in five of the first six innings and improved to 2-1 for the tournament. Anderson Pena, Diego Alcala and Luis Gonzalez scored twice for Spain. Alcala also had three RBI. Lyrr Friesem went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Lluc Mazon picked up the win, allowing three hits, three runs and two walks in 5 1/3 innings. Raz Kolakovsky conceded seven hits, six runs and two walks in four innings to take the loss.

Outlook

On day four of the U-18 Baseball European Championship takes place on Thursday. The game day starts off with Belgium taking on Sweden at 10:00 and France facing Great Britain at 11:30. In the afternoon at 14:00 Czechia hopes to get back into the mix for the semifinals against the Netherlands. At 15:30 Austria and Croatia meet in a matchup of previously winless teams. Host Germany is squaring off with Israel at 18:00. At 19:30 Spain and Italy will play each other in a key matchup in Group A. All games are being streamed live at www.baseballeurope.tv.
