Day 4 Recap: Baseball European Cup 2024 in Valencia, Spain

Today, pivotal games were played that defined the next round and solidified the semifinalists in the Baseball European Cup 2024.

In the game between the Vienna Metrostars and the Deurne Spartans, the Spartans dominated with a final score of 13-3. Mauro Van Mook earned the win for the Spartans, while Jakob Simonsen took the loss for the Metrostars.

The second game of the day saw Les Cougars Montigny take on Olimpija Karlovac. This closely contested match ended with a narrow 5-4 victory for Karlovac. The scoring started in the third inning with Montigny adding one run to the board. They followed up with a significant three-run forth inning, putting them ahead with a total of four runs. However, Karlovac responded strongly in the sixth inning, scoring three runs to tighten the game. The game remained tense until the ninth inning when Karlovac managed to score two crucial runs, clinching the victory. Garrett Alanson Parkins was the winning pitcher for Karlovac, while Robinson José Mastre Arcia took the loss for Montigny.

In a high-scoring game, the Astros Valencia faced off against the Montpellier Barracudas in a thrilling match that ended with a score of 11-8 in favor of the Astros. The game started with the Astros taking an early lead by scoring two runs in the first inning. The Barracudas responded in the second inning, adding one run to the scoreboard. However, the Astros maintained their momentum and scored another two runs in the second inning, extending their lead. In the following innings, the Barracudas managed to score three runs, bringing the game closer at 4-3. The fifth inning saw the Astros explode with four runs, significantly widening the gap. The Barracudas scored one more run in the sixth inning, but the Astros added another three runs in the eighth inning to secure their lead. In a last effort, the Barracudas managed to score three runs in the ninth inning, but it wasn't enough to catch up with the Astros' dominant performance. Zael Honora secured the win for the Astros, while Ricardo Hernández earned a save. Luc Polit took the loss for the Barracudas.

After the round-robin stage, Astros Valencia finished first in Group A, followed by Montpellier Barracudas, Deurne Spartans, and Vienna Metrostars. In Group B, Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz took the top spot, followed by Olimpija Karlovac, Les Cougars Montigny, and Diving Ducks.

From Group A, Astros Valencia and Montpellier Barracudas advance to the semifinals. From Group B, Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz and Olimpija Karlovac secure their spots in the next round.

Tomorrow's schedule includes a relegation match between the Vienna Metrostars and Les Cougars Montigny, as well as two semifinal games: Montpellier Barracudas versus Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz, and Olimpija Karlovac versus Astros Valencia.
